If you’re looking for a fun and unique outdoor activity in Virginia Beach festival, look no further than the annual Atlantic Coast Kite Festival! The kite flying festival is a celebration of all things kite related.

Participants come from all over from the East Coast to show off their colorful and creative kite designs. The festival features a variety of events, including kite flying competitions, kite-making workshops, and demonstrations from professional kite flyers.

This popular event held May 6-7 every spring at the oceanfront. It is a beloved tradition that attracts kite enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels.

The kids absolutely enjoyed seeing all the colors and designs that people brought in to fly!

Highlights From the Festival

One of the highlights of this Virginia Beach festival, is the giant kite display! Featuring enormous kites measuring up to 100 feet long and 50 feet wide. Wow! These impressive kites are a sight to behold as they soar high in the sky, showcasing intricate designs and patterns.

Kite Flying at the Beach!

Are you interested in flying at kite? The beach is a great place to do this since there is plenty of space and wind. This is also a great activity when the kids want to change things up after being in the water all day.

Here are some of my highly recommended and inexpensive kites for kids:

The kite flying festival is a perfect way to spend a beautiful spring day in Virginia Beach, surrounded by the stunning ocean views and vibrant energy of the festival.

Chalk the Walk summer Virginia Beach festival, scheduled for 2023, promised to be a celebration of artistry, community, and the boundless potential of chalk.

Artists from all walks of life will gather to unleash their creativity, turning the sidewalks of Virginia Beach into mesmerizing masterpieces.

It was a perfect day for this summer Virginia Beach festival! No wind, nice and sunny and very few clouds.

This makes it a perfect weather for creating art outside. Even though the sun was perfect, it is always best to wear sunscreen and our favorite pair of sunglasses! (Knockaround of course!)

What Is Another Virginia Beach Festival I Can Enjoy?

Boardwalk Art Show

Here is another summer Virginia Beach festival and a personal favorite of mine is the Boardwalk Art Show. What better way to enjoy the summer than to have the crashing waves and seeing beautiful pieces of artwork?!

This art show has a long-standing reputation as one of the prestigious outdoor art shows in Virginia.

Families can stroll along the vibrant boardwalk, admiring and purchasing a wide variety of artwork in various mediums including paintings, sculptures, jewelry, ceramics, and more.

The show provides a unique opportunity to interact with the artists, learn about their creative process, and even commission custom pieces. With the backdrop of the beautiful beach and ocean, the Boardwalk Art Show offers a captivating and inspiring experience for art enthusiasts and casual observers alike.

Neptune Festival

The Neptune Festival is an exciting annual Virginia Beach festival that celebrates the beach culture and maritime heritage of the area.

Schools around the area also participate in the parade by showcasing their schools marching bands!

Taking place in September, this Virginia Beach festival offers a wide range of activities that cater to all ages and interests. Visitors can enjoy live music performances by talented local and national artists, witness impressive sand sculpting competitions, watch colorful parades, explore arts and crafts shows, and indulge in delicious food from various vendors and food trucks.

The Neptune Festival creates a lively and festive atmosphere where families and friends can gather to enjoy the vibrant beach community while embracing the rich history and traditions of Virginia Beach.

Beach It! Country Music Festival

This is a newer summer Virginia Beach festival for us in Virginia Beach but its already extremely popular and the city is planning on this being a regular festival!

This is a 3 day long festival that is located on the beach with mutiple stages so you won’t miss a thing!

If country music is your thing, come out and enjoy the Beach it! Country Music Festival!

Something In the Water Music Festival

Founded by renowned musician and producer Pharrell Williams, the festival celebrates the vibrant and diverse culture of the region.

**I would not suggest this event for young kids so figure out a babysitter or keep the really little ones home with grandparents! **

The event typically features a wide range of musical genres, from hip-hop and R&B to pop and electronic dance music, with both established and emerging artists taking the stage.

What sets “Something in the Water” apart is its unique blend of music, art, and technology, offering attendees not only an exceptional musical experience but also immersive art installations and discussions on innovation.

This year, the entire festival was streamed on YouTube which gave you and up close and personal look of the show. AND you didnt have to deal with parking!

This Virginia Beach festival serves as a platform for fostering community engagement and highlights the creative spirit of Virginia Beach, making it a must-attend event for music enthusiasts and culture seekers alike. Please note that the festival’s details may changed due to rain so I recommend checking the official festival website for the most current information for next year.

Another fun fact is Pharrell Williams is building a surf park, just a few blocks from the oceanfront! So Cool! Check out what else Pharrell has been doing for Virginia Beach:

Final Splash

This Virginia Beach festival list will grow and grow in the coming years now that Covid is not an immediate threat at the moment. My kids always ask, “Mom, what festival are we doing this weekend?!” because that’s how much fun they have!

Getting outside and walking is such a great thing for their development, and I look forward to making more memories with them at the Virginia Beach oceanfront!
