Beach day checklist
Make your beach visit memorable by having a beach day checklist so you don’t forget crucial items!

Is there anything more glorious than listening to the sound of waves crashing, feeling the sand between your toes, and watching your little ones having a blast?

Even though here at the Beach Kids club house, we really enjoy the beach and go there often, we still use a beach day checklist to make sure we don’t forget items.

With 4 kids in tow, we try to have a little method to going out in public to make it more enjoyable.

Even couples can use this beach day checklist to help not forget important items.

Taking a trip to the beach with kids can be an unforgettable experience—but it’s also important to remember that you need to bring to the beach some essentials along with you if you want everyone to have a good time.

Thats why having a beach day checklist can be critical to make sure you don’t forget anything important!

What’s on our Beach Day Checklist

 1. Sun Protection

The girls LOVE their Tides hats!

This is non-negotiable. This is why Sun Protection is the first one the list for beach day checklist. Everyone needs:

Especially Kids!

Make sure you invest in quality sun protection products specifically designed for children’s delicate skin.

Better yet, go for eco-friendly brands that are free from harsh chemicals like parabens and phthalates. And don’t forget about those pesky sand fleas—you may want to bring some bug spray just in case!

Here are my top favorites to add to your beach day checklist:

2. Beach Towels

Traveling with small kids requires extra planning and that includes having extra clothes for the occasional accidents or a messy meal. There are great beach towels that are big enough to spread out which makes it convenient for drying off in the sun later too!

Towels are also a must for a quick clean up and dry off, so your car doesn’t get too dirty.

Here are my favorite towels to add to your beach day checklist :

3.Extra Clothes

Having an extra set of clothes for the beach is important for various reasons. It allows you to stay comfortable and dry after the water activities, preventing prolonged exposure to damp clothing that can lead to discomfort and potential skin irritation.

A couple of summer ago, I had forgotten to add this to our beach day checklist and the kids were crying and annoyed the entire trip home. After that, I never forgot to bring extra clothes!

Beach days can be unpredictable with kids, with unexpected weather changes or accidental spills!

4. Beach Chairs

Best Beach chair
Gotta have a beach chair for the front view seat!

Beach chairs are a must-have for a comfortable and enjoyable beach day. While lounging on the sand can be relaxing, beach chairs provide several benefits.

Firstly, they offer a convenient seating option, allowing you to sit back and relax without getting sandy or uncomfortable. Beach chairs also provide better back support compared to sitting directly on the ground, making it easier to spend extended periods of time at the beach.

If you’re reading a book, soaking in the sun, or simply enjoying the beautiful surroundings, beach chairs enhance your comfort and overall beach experience which is a good enough reason to at this to your beach day checklist!

5. Swimwear

infant swimwear
I got these great swimsuits from Target!

First and foremost, swimsuits are specifically designed to be worn in water, ensuring comfort and freedom of movement while swimming, surfing, or participating in other water activities.

They are made from materials that dry quickly, allowing you to move comfortably on the sand or engage in various beach games without feeling heavy or weighed down.

Swimsuits also provide coverage and sun protection for your body, reducing direct exposure to harmful UV rays and minimizing the risk of sunburn. In addition to their functionality, swimsuits are synonymous with beach fashion and style.

6. Water Shoes or Sandals

Water shoes and sandals are essential footwear for a day at the beach. They offer numerous benefits and protection.

Firstly, they provide traction and grip, preventing slips and falls on wet and slippery surfaces like rocks or moss. This is especially important when navigating through waves or exploring tide pools.

The sand can get extremely hot and I’ve seen visitors and even locals have severe burns to their feet!

These types of footwear are designed to be quick-drying, allowing you to comfortably transition from wet to dry areas without discomfort or squishy shoes.

So, don’t forget to pack a pair of water shoes or sandals on your beach day checklist to keep your feet safe, comfortable, and ready for any beach adventure.

7. Beach Bag

A beach bag is a must-have accessory for a day at the beach. It serves as a convenient and practical storage solution for all your beach essentials.

Beach bag

With its spacious design and multiple compartments, a beach bag allows you to organize and carry everything you need in one place. From towels, sunscreen, and snacks to water bottles, sunglasses, and extra clothes, a beach bag ensures that you have easy access to all your belongings.

This is one of my favorite beach bags because it has such a cute design and big enough to carry all of my Items on my beach day checklist!

It also helps keep your items protected from sand, water, and other elements, preventing them from getting lost or damaged.

Whether you’re lounging by the shore or exploring various activities, a beach bag keeps you organized, prepared, and ready to fully enjoy your day at the beach.

This is a must have on your beach day checklist!

8. Sunglasses

Firstly, sunglasses shield your eyes from the harsh glare of the sun, reducing the risk of eye strain and potential damage caused by harmful UV rays.

They also help minimize squinting, allowing you to fully enjoy the beautiful beach views without discomfort.

So, don’t forget to add this to your beach day checklist and grab your sunglasses and hat to ensure a comfortable and stylish beach experience.

9. Beach tent

Another part of the sun protection is being able to get relief during the peak sunlight time which is from approx. 11a-3p depending on where you live.

A beach tent offers a cool and shaded retreat where you can relax, have a snack, or even take a nap. It also serves as a refuge from strong winds or unexpected rain showers, keeping you and your belongings dry and secure.

It offers privacy and a designated space for changing clothes, especially if public restrooms or changing facilities are not readily available. With its lightweight and portable design, a beach tent is easy to set up and pack away, making it a valuable addition to any beach day.

So, don’t forget to bring a beach tent to make your beach outing more comfortable, enjoyable, and protected from the elements.

There are several types of ways to accomplish this, and I prefer the one that is lightweight but sturdy.

10. Snacks and Drinks

Beaches are hungry places—and this goes double for kids who never seem to stop running around and playing! Pack plenty of healthy snacks like granola bars, trail mix, fruit salad or cut up veggies so your little ones can refuel throughout the day without getting too much sugar.

Don’t forget to bring plenty of water (or other beverages) too; dehydration is no joke on hot summer days!

11. Cooler

It allows you to keep your food and beverages fresh and chilled throughout the day. The hot sun and sandy environment can quickly spoil perishable items, making it essential to have a cooler to maintain their quality and prevent foodborne illnesses.

A well-insulated cooler ensures that your drinks stay refreshing and your snacks remain appetizing. It also saves you from having to purchase overpriced food and beverages from beach vendors.

As someone who likes to save money, having a cooler is critical to have on my beach day packing list!

So, make sure to add a cooler on your beach day checklist to your next beach trip for a hassle-free and enjoyable experience with cool refreshments at your fingertips.

12. Beach Toys & Games, Kites, beach balls, frisbees

There are lots of fun and not just practical things to add on your beach packing checklist!

You can bring along beach toys that will keep your kids entertained while also encouraging them to be active and explore their surroundings.

Bring something different each time so they won’t get bored; why not try making your own DIY beach game like a treasure hunt or scavenger hunt? It’s always fun to see what creative activities they come up with!

13. Life Vests and Puddle Jumpers

Here’s an example of what a puddle jumper looks like.

A life vest provides buoyancy and ensures that you stay afloat in the water, making it a crucial piece of equipment for swimmers of all ages. It is designed to distribute your weight evenly and keep your head above the water, reducing the risk of drowning or fatigue.

Puddle jumpers, on the other hand, are specially designed for children and provide both arm floaties and a comfortable chest piece.

They offer added stability and support, allowing young ones to gain confidence in the water while ensuring their safety.

Both life vests and puddle jumpers provide peace of mind to you and your loved ones, allowing everyone to enjoy water activities without fear. Whether you’re swimming, boating, or engaging in any water-based fun, these flotation devices are essential on your beach day checklist for a safe and enjoyable beach experience.

14. Extra Wipes and a Diaper Bag

They provide a quick and convenient way to maintain cleanliness and hygiene throughout the day. A diaper bag, specifically designed to hold baby essentials, is a lifesaver when it comes to organizing and carrying everything you need.

With a well-packed diaper bag, you can handle any diaper changes or unexpected messes that may occur during your beach outing. It provides peace of mind, knowing that you have everything you need to keep your little one clean, comfortable, and happy.

So, don’t forget to pack extra wipes and a fully stocked diaper bag on your beach day checklist to ensure a smooth and stress-free beach adventure with your little bundle of joy.

15. Portable Speaker

A portable speaker is a must-have accessory for a fun-filled day at the beach. It adds an extra element of enjoyment and sets the perfect ambiance for your beach experience.

With a portable speaker, you can bring your favorite music along and create a lively atmosphere, whether you’re sunbathing, playing beach games, or having a beach picnic.

The high-quality sound and powerful output of a portable speaker allow you to enjoy your favorite tunes with friends and family. It enhances the overall mood and brings everyone together, creating lasting memories.

Additionally, many portable speakers are designed with waterproof or water-resistant features, protecting them from splashes and sand. This ensures that you can keep the music playing without worrying about any beach-related mishaps.

So, if you want to elevate your beach day with music and good vibes, don’t forget to bring a portable speaker on your beach day checklist for endless enjoyment under the sun.

16. First Aid Kit

The beach can pose certain risks, such as minor cuts, scrapes, sunburns, or jellyfish stings. Having a well-stocked first aid kit allows you to quickly and effectively address these issues.

Being a medical professional, this one is near and dear to my heart because I know what things can happen at the beach with kids so this is one of the top items for my beach day checklist!

It typically includes items like adhesive bandages, antiseptic wipes, hydrocortisone cream, sunscreen, tweezers, and pain relievers. By having a first aid kit on hand, you can provide immediate care and prevent any minor injuries from escalating into more significant problems.

It brings peace of mind knowing that you are equipped to handle any unexpected situations, ensuring a safe and enjoyable beach experience for you and your loved ones.

Why Have a Beach Day checklist?

Having a beach day checklist is essential for a well-prepared and enjoyable outing by the shore. It ensures that you have everything you need to make the most out of your beach adventure.

A comprehensive beach day packing list typically includes items such as sunscreen, towels, hats, sunglasses, beach chairs or blankets, snacks, water bottles, a cooler, beach toys, a portable speaker, extra clothes, and a first aid kit.

By having these items on hand, you can protect yourself from the sun, stay comfortable, hydrate, entertain yourself or your little ones, and be prepared for any unforeseen situations.

A beach day checklist eliminates the stress of forgetting important items and allows you to relax and fully enjoy your time at the beach. So, before you head out to soak up the sun and splash in the waves, make sure to create a beach day packing list to ensure a fun-filled and hassle-free experience.

Final splash

Going to the beach with kids can be an incredible experience for everyone if you plan ahead and prepare yourself properly by using a beach day checklist.

By bringing all the essential items such as sun protection products, snacks and drinks, and toys/games, you’ll ensure everyone has an awesome time without any unexpected surprises!

Plus, it’ll help make packing easier so you can get back home sooner too – win-win! Now get ready for some serious family fun in the sun!
