What is the real story of Valentine’s Day?
One of the many stories of Valentine’s Day can be traced back to ancient Rome and the legend of Saint Valentine. It is thought that during the 3rd century, Emperor Claudius II outlawed marriage for young men, as he believed that single men made better soldiers.
However, a Christian priest named Valentine continued to perform secret marriages for young couples in defiance of the emperor’s orders.
When his actions were discovered, Valentine was imprisoned and later executed on February 14th, around the year 269 AD.
Another story was he fell in love with the daughter of a jailer and signed “my Valentine” right before he was executed! I Kind of a gruesome history but over time it became something much more positive!
