So, you’ve been traveling all day with the kids, and you arrive to the wonderful destination of Virginia Beach! But all the kids are HUNGRY! Dad, Mom what are we having for dinner!
I’m here to help you with the top family friendly restaurants near me in Virginia Beach!
All of the family friendly restaurants I have listed here have a kid’s menu and a great selection of food for the adults as well.
Whenever we are looking for new places for the kids, we make sure the restaurants include that because the establishments “welcome” families with kids. The list also includes places that are a little fancier and some that you can go to with a T-shirt and jeans.
Table of Contents
Family Friendly Restaurants at the Oceanfront
Planet Pizza
- 812 Atlantic Ave STE 190, Virginia Beach, VA 23451
- (757) 491-1954
When we took my son to Planet Pizza for the first time when he turned 2, he could not stop looking at all the decorations in the place. If you’re looking for an experience and something a little different, this place is it!
Also located close to the boardwalk, Planet Pizza had an assortment of great choices on the menu such as Pizza, salads and subs which is great for any family. Everyone can choose what they want but my suggestion would be to get the Pizza!
My family ordered a pepperoni and a cheese pizza which included cheese and hot peppers at the table. It was excellent! The young kids would really get a kick out of this place too!
Watermans
- 415 Atlantic Avenue, Virginia Beach, VA 23451
- 757-428-3644
- Here is the kids menu
Now Waterman’s is a locals favorite AFTER tourist season. During tourist season, it is so extremely popular that wait times can be a bit long. My suggestion is to have an early dinner (kids early anyway, right?) to beat the crowds.
This place is located right on the boardwalk so after a fun day at the beach, shower up at your hotel then walk right over to Watermans! Waterman’s also offers valet parking which makes it convenient if you have very small kids and a car seat you need to bring in!
The food is primarily seafood but there are other options on the menu for people that maybe don’t want the fish, shrimp or crab entrees! I’ve been here several times for goodbye dinners for colleagues and romantic evenings and this place never disappoints.
Dough Boys
- 3224 Atlantic Avenue Virginia Beach, VA 23451
- 2410 Atlantic Avenue Virginia Beach, VA 23451
Dough Boys has been around since 1989 in Virginia Beach, so this place is another local favorite for locals and one of the great family friendly restaurants during the off season. For tourist, there are two locations at the oceanfront so you can find one in about 10 mins in either direction.
During the summer, the large window at the front comes up and you can DIRECT access to the sidewalk and then to the beach. It’s really nice during the summer where it can get muggy and hot. Just open up the front windows and let that sweet sweet ocean air come to you while you’re eating great pizza!

Ocean Eddies
- 1415 Atlantic Avenue, Virginia Beach, VA 23451
- 757-425-7742
If you are looking for a place that is truly a unique experience, but still one of the great family friendly restaurants, Ocean Eddies fits the bill! Situated RIGHT ON THE PIER, this place offers burgers, seafood, tacos and more!
We had taken my daughter and her friend for lunch here and we were extremely satisfied. As soon as you walk in, you can see the big bay windows where you can see the beach and sand right where you’re sitting!
Off the Beaten Path
Blue Seafood and Spirits
- 2181 Upton Drive Virginia Beach, VA 23454 (about 15mins from the oceanfront)
- 757-689-5395
Are you looking for a seafood place that is more upscale but still one of my favorite family friendly restaurants? Blue Seafood and Spirits is just that place! My husband and I went here for a date night on a Thursday, and I was shocked at how busy it was for a THURSDAY night! We had to wait about 30 extra minutes to get a seat but I’m so glad we did!
As we were looking over the menu, I was happily surprised to see a kids meal section which leads me to believe that kids are definitely welcomed. We were pretty hungry by the time we sat down so we ended up getting an appetizer along with our main meals.
As we were waiting for our meals, I did notice a few tables that had kids and the sound in the restaurant made the noise very faint and subdued. The main meals came out and we were just blown away! Delicious, hot and very flavorful. The owner came around and made sure the meal was to our liking which made the experience very personal. Give this place a try!

This is also a great opportunity to talk to your kids about what their favorite toppings are and why. We love finding ways to communicate with our kids and get them to express their thoughts and opinions!
Final Splash
As someone that knows what it’s like to look for family friendly restaurants at vacation spots for kids, I know this can be a difficult task. All of these restaurants listed do include a kid’s menu so everyone can enjoy a delicious meal here in Virginia Beach.
My comments section is always open so let me know if you have another place in mind and I can give you the low down! As always…
